Every user of batteries or accumulators is legally obliged to return old batteries and accumulators. You can do this free of charge at a retail outlet or other collection point in your area. You can obtain the addresses of suitable collection centres in your area from your city or local authority. For batteries that contain more than 0.0005 per cent mercury by mass, more than 0.002 per cent cadmium by mass or more than 0.004 per cent lead by mass, the chemical designations of the pollutant used can be found under the waste bin symbol. The chemical designations have the following meaning: Pb: Battery contains lead Cd: Battery contains cadmium Hg: Battery contains mercury
